Beignets in the Bayou

This past weekend was a great action-packed, spirit-filled weekend.   I attended the Southwest Region Conference Annual Singles Enrichment Weekend.  This year the event was hosted by Berean Seventh-day Adventist Church in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

We had a great time all weekend.  But we couldn’t dare leave the state without some authentic beignets.  Beignets are deep-fried pastries, similar to funnel cake, but more sophisticated.  And definitely, not as oily.

We found a coffee shop near the hotel, Coffee Call, and decided to enjoy some beignets before traveling home.  These lovely pillows of fried dough were served hot with a heaping of powdered sugar.  The coffee shop offers regular sized beignets, an order of 3.  Or you can have beignet fingers in a small or large order.

We sat and had tea and coffee while eating our beignets.  We talked and reminisced about the great time we had just experienced for the weekend.  We then had prayer, asking God for traveling mercies.  And we said our goodbyes, giving each other powder sugar laden hugs.  What a great time!

Have you ever tried beignets before?

**stay tuned to hear more about our wonderful weekend
