    National Cheesecake Day 2015

I’ve expressed before that I’m not a fan of cheesecake.  People are always telling me to try this one, and try that one, and I will acquire a love for it.  I challenged everyone last year to share a cheesecake recipe with me that would win me over.  But nothing yet.  So in the spirit of National Cheesecake Day, I sought out some of the most interesting cheesecake recipes.  They all appear to be filled with flavor.  I wonder if any of them can win me over.  Maybe they will win you over as well. Cinnamon Roll Cheesecake If you love cinnamon rolls, then this may be the cheesecake for…

    National Sugar Cookie Day

I don’t think anyone has ever loved cookies more than Cookie Monster from Sesame Street.  Except maybe me!  I enjoy a great cookie every now and then (more now than then, actually).  One of my favorites is Snickerdoodles.  I also love Chocolate Chip cookies.  But I find it difficult to come across a fabulous Sugar cookie.  I did find a Sugar cookie that I love at a restaurant (see the post). I have tried several Sugar cookie recipes in the past, both homemade and store bought refrigerated cookie dough.  Most of the homemade recipes require that the cookie dough be chilled, which takes a lot of time.  And the cookies…

    Easy Mini Apple Pies

My brother eats oatmeal for breakfast quite often, and loves to add fruit to it.  For a while now, he’s being adding Dole Fruit Crisp to his oatmeal.  The Dole Fruit Crisp consists of fruit and crunchy granola.  It comes in three flavors, but my brother prefers the Apple Cinnamon. The package recommends heating the fruit and then adding the granola on top.  But my brother just adds them both into his hot oatmeal.  I tried it once, and it was really good.  As I was eating it I thought “Using this fruit would be an easy way to make a pie.”  I’ve never made pie before because it seems so…

    National Donut Day 2015 Roundup

Today is National Donut Day!! I know that is exciting news.  So when you grab your cup of coffee, or tea, or milk (or whatever your favorite morning beverage is), pair it with a donut today.  Donuts are a classic breakfast treat.  Something quick and fast, that you can eat without a knife and fork.  These little sugar concoctions can be very addictive.  I used to work next to a Shipley’s Donuts shop, and frequented the place at least three times per week. Here are a few recipes that you may want to try in the kitchen yourself in celebration. Homemade Glazed Donut This is a classic.  Almost everyone enjoys…

    Cookies and Cream Chocolate Cake

O.M.G.  Once again, my love for chocolate cake is growing.  Really growing.  Travis Bligen, wonderful baker, has created another delightful cake.  Another great chocolate cake. As, I’ve expressed before, I’m not really a fan of chocolate cake.  I love when my younger brother makes a chocolate cake, and I love the ones made by Travis.  Number one reason:  they are moist! This Cookies and Cream Chocolate Cake is so rich and decadent.  It’s almost sinful to sit and eat an entire piece.  It has these very moist layers of chocolate cake.  And nestled in between are crunchy and creamy layers of cookies and cream and smooth chocolate pudding layers.  Then the entire cake…

My New Love For Chocolate Cake

I love cake!  Did I say that I love cake?  Yes, I did!  I’ve never been a fan of chocolate cake, though.  I will eat German Chocolate cake, mostly because of the coconut.  But will usually pass when offered a slice of any other chocolate cake, especially Devil’s Food cake.  Blah! But I am now in love with one particular chocolate cake.  I shared a post about a wonderful Italian Cream Cake that I had.  Well, the same baker, Travis Bligen, made this awesome chocolate cake.   courtesy of Travis Bligen Travis sent me a slice as a sample some weeks ago.  I remember how sad I was when it…

    Italian Cream Cake

For weeks, my older brother had been telling me that he had ordered something special for me.  And I had better be grateful once I receive it.  I wasn’t absolutely certain what it was, but I had a good idea that it was a pastry.  After all, everyone knows how I adore pastries. Well, he brought my special gift to me, and as I suspected it was a pastry.  A beautiful cake!  And there was coconut on it, so I was immediately pleased.  He wasn’t sure exactly if it was a coconut cake; he knew to tell the baker that I love coconut.  But once I cut into, I realized…
