I Walked Out of the Classroom…Again! (Part 3)
Fast forward to year 2 of my return to teaching. I was hopeful that the year would go well. But I had concerns: the coworker who obviously wanted to defile my character and slander my name. I was pretty sure that she had told lies to parents to deter them from enrolling their students in my class. And my other concern was the new administrator. Would she come in and change the dynamics of our work environment? Year 2 started off in much the same way as the previous year. The same teacher that didn’t take too kindly to me, was now my department head! And to make matters worse,…

Classroom Pencil Sharpener Review
**Disclaimer: I was not paid for this review. I was gifted a pencil sharpener to use. The opinions are my own. This post contains affiliate links. Being a teacher, especially a math teacher, I know the importance of having a good pencil sharpener in the classroom. Too many times, I’ve been supplied “cheap” pencil sharpeners that have the life expectancy of an ant. Well maybe, a little longer than an ant. But, you get my point! The pencil sharpeners that are usually supplied by the school are not the greatest. They don’t last long. They’re noisy. And they have a huge appetite for pencils, gnawing on them until there’s nothing…

I Walked Out of the Classroom…Again (Part 2)
There I was…all excited about a new year! The previous year had gone fairly well, so why not be hopeful? Of course, nothing could be worse than my years of teaching public school! My first six years of teaching will forever be emblazoned in my mind. Not because they were great. Oh no, far from that. They were unremarkable, to say the least. I am sometimes still in disbelief about the experiences that I had. Let me give you a quick synopsis: Year 1: By October of that school year, yes October, the administration was already trying to get me removed from my Teacher Certification program. You read that correctly. …

I Walked Out of the Classroom…Again (Part 1)
When I left the first time, I said I would never go back. Never…ever!! It wasn’t worth the emotional and mental stress. I was never going to do it again!! But I did…I went back. After 3 years of not teaching, and only doing private math tutoring, I took a leap of faith and decided to return to the classroom. Its really kinda funny how it all happened. I was originally applying for a summer program and saw that the school was also hiring for an Algebra teacher. God knows I love Algebra, and as I sat at the computer entering information for the summer program, I also applied for…

Most Popular Dream Jobs
I was watching a television show called Masterminds. It is a show about criminals who have pulled off some of the most amazing crimes. The episode was about a man who continuously presented himself as a medical doctor. He used false credentials to get jobs as a physician. Yet, he kept getting caught and going to prison. While in prison he would still refer to himself as a doctor, and all the inmates would call him ‘Doc’. He used his prison stays to study medicine and medical procedures. So every time that he was released for good behavior, he would go back to being an impostor. He went too far…

Making The Grade?
Sally has homework about 3 times a week. She tends to struggle with it. She also does poorly on her assessments and has to make test corrections. At the end of the grading period, Sally brings home her report card and has a shining B average. Her parents are so proud of her for bringing up her grade. But Sally stands in amazement because she doesn’t understand how her grade improved. She still does not understand the concepts they are learning in class. So what’s wrong with this situation? This happens more frequently than most parents realize. A teacher is managing a classroom room of 30+ students, each with his/her…
