Happy Thanksgiving 2018
It’s that time of year! The time when friends and family gather together to commune, converse and give thanks. In the midst of this holiday, my prayer is that you all are blessed with a home, food and clothing. Have a great time with your family and friends. But most of all, don’t forget to be thankful!

Giving Thanks
Thanksgiving Day came upon us quickly. And it was everything that I wanted it to be. I, of course, was very grateful to see another day. And I was able to do exactly as I had planned….nothing. That’s right, I had a lazy morning. And I much needed the time to rest. Later that afternoon, my brothers and I arrived at my parents’ home for our Thanksgiving meal. My mom always says that “I’m not cooking next year”, but she still prepares a great feast for us. We didn’t have any guests or visitors, just our immediate family. My mother decorated the table nicely, and prepared just enough food. There…

Thanksgiving Leftover Recipes
Thanksgiving has come and gone. You ate well and enjoyed time with family and friends. But what are you going to do with all those leftovers?! Here are a couple of recipe ideas to ensure that none of the food goes to waste. 1. Whipped Cranberry Butter photo courtesy of goodlifeeats.com Use your remaining cranberry sauce to make this decadent butter. Place atop your weekend breakfast of biscuits or muffins. 2. Stuffing Stuffed Mushrooms photo courtesy of purelyconsumed.wordpress.com It’s hard to transform leftover stuffing and dressing. But add it to some mushrooms for a nice treat. 3. Carrot Soup/Smoothie You can use the extra glazed carrots in your favorite carrot…

Have a Happy Thanksgiving!
After you’ve baked all your pies and cakes And set the table with your finest china plates After you’ve made the mashed potatoes and carved the meat After you have buttered the rolls that you’ll eat Once you’ve prepared the green bean casserole And all the gravy has been placed in the gravy bowl After you’ve stuffed yourself with turkey and dressing Don’t forget to thank God for all of your blessings. ~~composed by Tameka Brown

Reasons To Avoid Black Friday Sales
On Thanksgiving Day, we celebrate with family and friends. We give thanks for all that we have been blessed with. But the next day, Black Friday, we forget what we have and seek out more. We get trapped into a retail whirlwind, to purchase items, most that we don’t even need. We camp out in front of stores overnight, sometimes for days. We brave the cold and long lines for material things. I admit, I did the whole “Black Friday” thing a couple of times. Didn’t even sleep to stay up until the wee hours for a DVD player. I ran in the store, grabbed what I needed and got…

Decorating with Candles
I have lived in several apartments and homes. But I never really decorated any of them. It’s not that I didn’t want to. I either never quite got around to it, or was just lost as to what look to give each room. But I’ve always wanted to do better at decorating. I’ve tried my hand at making candlescapes before. It wasn’t fabulous, but it wasn’t all that bad either. And I believe that a candlescape is a simple, but elegant way to dress up any room of your house. The Thanksgiving holiday is approaching. And dining tables are decorated nicely for family dinner. These candlescapes will really make the…

Happy Thanksgiving!!
I feel a little guilty this Thanksgiving morning. While there are many women in their kitchens attending to turkey, yams and potatoes, I’m still in bed. I know how to cook, and can do so. But I prefer not to. You could say that the kitchen and I are acquaintances, yet the dining room is a good friend. No wonder that my contribution to today’s meal is premade dinner rolls. Don’t judge me. I commend all the preparers of the many meals that will be served today. I pray that all will not go without today. I thank God for the blessing of family and friends, for strength…
